Hirshabelle regional parliament elects new speaker


The regional parliament of Hirshabelle state has elected a new speaker on Wednesday.

Abdihakin Luqman Haji was declared the winner of the post with 77 votes while his close contender garnered 21 votes.

Siraji Sheikh Isak was also elected as first deputy speaker of parliament scoring 95 votes

Mahad Hassan Osman was also elected as the second deputy speaker of the state after defeating incumbent Anab Hassan Elmi.

The region is scheduled to hold presidential elections later this month.

Deputy president Ali Gudlawe is currently in acting capacity after former leader Mohamed Abdi Ware stepped down a day ago.
